SJB Foods are a foodservice company servicing Devon, Dorset & Somerset.

Despite my foodservice and catering connections, we'd not crossed paths at the point when Stephen Berisford gave me a call. He'd heard of me though and had spoken with Tony Quick of Forest Produce, who must have said some pretty nice things (-;

At the time, SJB were working with the Choco app, so ecommerce and email marketing functions were already addressed. What they did need was:

  • A site that reflected their personality

  • A fuss-free introduction to their services and current offers

  • Easy gateways into their shopping app or to request an account

  • Conversion of their printed brochure into a digital format, with web link

  • A simple dashboard for their internal team to quickly manage website updates

To be frank, the thing with foodservice is that many products are the same across competing businesses. After all, McCains chips are McCains chips (well, kind of).

Furthermore, a lot of the imagery can get very... beige!

Just as it is for a Chef to bring the ingredients to life, and to craft something unique, so it is for me. Chefs are also a savvy lot and time poor, so they want to know the bare bones, without the hype. SJB also knew that a lot of their success was built upon their reputation for being so personable, trustworthy and down-to-earth. So I felt keen to give them a website that felt the same.

Fortunately SJB trusted me to arrange and oversee a photoshoot. This wasn't to be so much about food dishes but about them: the people, the processes, their place.

Andy Francis of @tarkatography has provided many fantastic photos for my past projects and was a joy to work with again (although he did lock me in a blooming freezer and captured my 'wtf!?' moment as I came out!).

I kind of pride myself on giving clients a smooth website-build experience. The dramas, snooty attitudes and misconceptions that seem to surround website design is just crazy (it's horses for courses!). Anyway, this was again a super smooth build and delivered significantly under budget.

Ooh, and with their new website launching ready for The Source Show, Exeter, SJB asked me to quickly turnaround a set of large exhibition panels and backdrop too.

Alternative approaches were offered and, for the exhibition purpose, we went with designs showcasing their food range. The salmon shimmered, the sausages sizzled and donuts dazzled... and we were praised for having such an eye-catching displays (-:

My huge thanks to Stephen and James Berisford for the new opportunities.

They're a pleasure to work with, as are the office team.

"It was a pleasure to work with Sara. She listened to what we needed as a company and went above and beyond to get our website how we wanted. Sara was also invaluable in getting our stand ready for the Source Trade Show. Professional and friendly service." James Berisford, Operations Director.
